ABOUT

Who we are.

The Texas chapter of Krio Descendants Union Global — a family of Sierra Leoneans of Krio descent (and our friends and family) gathered around three pillars.

The Krio Descendants Union of Texas was founded by a small group of Sierra Leoneans of Krio descent who, having settled across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, felt the need to do what the founders of every Krio family does — gather. We are the Texas chapter of Krio Descendants Union Global; we are also, more simply, a family.

What we do sits on three pillars: reflection on who we are and where we come from, education through scholarships and the Akinola Wyse Symposium series, and charitable giving — health-and-wellness outreach in Sierra Leone, relief shipments, and the quiet support our members give each other every week.

You don’t have to be Krio to join us. If your family is Krio, you belong. If your friends are Krio, you belong. If you’ve ever sat down to a plate of jollof and wanted to know where the recipe travelled from, you belong.

Le we hep we sef — let us help ourselves.
